About PLIX
The MIT Public Library Innovation Exchange (PLIX) develops creative STEAM learning experiences based on MIT research and designed for the public library setting. PLIX programs support learners as:
- Designers—rather than consumers—of technology
- Creators—rather than recipients—of knowledge
- Scientists and artists—rather than one or the other
PLIX connects library professionals and MIT researchers to co-design learning experiences, develop and share facilitation practices, and integrate creative learning into public library programming. PLIX strives to increase equitable access to and broaden participation in STEAM programming.
My Role
From implementing grant funded projects, to co-designing STEM activities, to facilitating professional development workshops online and in-person, to supporting a community of practice, my role, like the public librarians this project serves, is one of many hats. In 2024, after the move to a different department, I redesigned the brand visuals and voice to reflect the way it serves the community of public librarians. The cloud shape in the logo reflects the pedagogical tool of the creative learning spiral and the rounded corners support a welcoming community. The addition of a pinboard database helps highlight the remixed versions of the core set of activities, that also shows up in the individual activity pages.
